The Atonement & Faith

"Faith in the Lord is trust in the Lord. We cannot have true faith in the Lord without also having complete trust in the Lord’s will and in the Lord’s timing. As a result, no matter how strong our faith is, it cannot produce a result contrary to the will of Him in whom we have faith. Remember that when your prayers do not seem to be answered in the way or at the time you desire. The exercise of faith in the Lord Jesus Christ is always subject to the order of heaven, to the goodness and will and wisdom and timing of the Lord. When we have that kind of faith and trust in the Lord, we have true security and serenity in our lives."

Meridian Magazine :: Arts: Watching Movies on the Sabbath?

I love this, because we do the same in our family. We do our best to keep the Sabbath day Holy, and part of that is that we don't do things we would normally do during the week. If the kids want to watch a movie, that is fine, but it has to be something that is spiritually uplifting, something that turns our hearts to our Savior. There are several movies that you can get at the LDS Distribution Center, Seagull Book & Tape, or even Deseret Book to name a few that have some great spiritually uplifting movies for the whole family. We also love the movie Facing the Giants - which is absolutely spiritually moving!

How I learned to mind my own business

I got this in an email, and it just made me smile. I thought I would share it with you.

I was walking past the mental hospital the other day, I could hear a lot of the patients shouting, '13....13....13.'

The fence was too high to see over, but I saw a little gap in the planks, so I looked through to see what was going on.....

Some idiot poked me in the eye with a stick!

Then they all started shouting, '14....14....14'...

Have We Not Reason to Rejoice?

"Enduring to the end, or remaining faithful to the laws and ordinances of the gospel of Jesus Christ throughout our life, is a fundamental requirement for salvation in the kingdom of God...Therefore, enduring to the end is not just a matter of passively tolerating life’s difficult circumstances or “hanging in there.” Ours is an active religion, helping God’s children along the strait and narrow path to develop their full potential during this life and return to Him one day... Enduring to the end is a process filling every minute of our life, every hour, every day, from sunrise to sunrise. It is accomplished through personal discipline following the commandments of God."

Mothers

"As mothers in Israel, we are the Lord’s secret weapon. Our influence comes from a divine endowment that has been in place from the beginning. In the premortal world, when our Father described our role, I wonder if we didn’t stand in wide-eyed wonder that He would bless us with a sacred trust so central to His plan and that He would endow us with gifts so vital to the loving and leading of His children. I wonder if we shouted for joy at least in part because of the ennobling stature He gave us in His kingdom. The world won’t tell you that, but the Spirit will."

Scripture Enlightening Moment

Last night, I read in The Book of Mormon: Another Testament of Jesus Christ, Alma 24:30, it reads "And thus we can plainly discern, that after a people have been once enlightened by the Spirit of God, and have had great knowledge of things pertaining to righteousness, and then have fallen away into sin and transgression, they become more hardened, and thus their state becomes worse than though they had never known these things."

I think about this, in that we all sin, but if we fall into sin w/out repentance, and part of repentance is acknowledging the wrong (our own actions or not actions) in the first place. But even with the atonement, if a trial you're going through is a direct result of someone else we can still put these trials in the Lord's hands, do our best and move forward. I think sometimes people blame others even if it isn't their fault - either way, you have a choice not to stay in misery, you have a choice to leave it behind you, forgive, forget, and move forward. We've all been given a great gift of atonement, we have all be given the opportunity to choose a better path, through prayer and through the spirit or the holy ghost we can know truth, we can gain a testimony and we can move forward by nurturing. If we altogether stop nurturing, of course our strong testimony is going to falter, doubts will come, bitterness, hate, depression amongst so many other feelings that can either destroy our knowledge of truth or strengthen our knowledge of truth. And you know, truth will set you free esp if you choose to take that truth into your life and live it.

Blessings
